Publications
It will be a daunting task, but I will slowly comb the archives and assemble various collections of music, writings, interviews and mandolin history
This site is still under construction. Eventually you will have access to the following items.
-
✺ Mandolin Quarterly
For several years I was the editor of Mandolin Quarterly and conducted several long form interviews with some of the greatest mandolin players of the time. I didn’t get everyone, but I got most of them before we disbanded.

✺ Mick Moloney and the Irish Mandolin
As part of my job with Mandolin Quarterly I needed to find interesting columnists to contribute to the magazine. Mick Moloney had written several columns in another great little magazine called the Mandocrucians Digest published by Niles Hokannan(sp). When I decided to start a mandolin column I immediately thought of Mick. It turned out that we were both professors in Manhattan - Mick at NYU and I was at Columbia. We were a mere 108 blocks away from each other making it easy for us to meet often. I decided that I would try to transcribe every solo Mick recorded and all of tunes he played for me in person which I recorded. I intend to create a book with all of those transcriptions along with my interview of Mick and overview of Irish mandolin.

✺ Gallery of Greats
I wrote several columns on historically important mandolin platers and composers of classical mandolin music. I collate these article into a nice history of the classical mandolin and include relevant scores and examples.

✺ Records
Hear is a listing of many of the recordings I performed on over the course of my career.
-
✺ Italian Mandolin
I published one book of arrangements of the many famous Italian mandolin songs in arrangements for mandolin and guitar.
Now out of print, I have 1 box left of the soft cover books that I will put up for sale as the this site is completed.
I have a second unpublished book of the most famous Italian mandolin solos - note for note - as played by the great Italian American mandolinists transcribed from historic recordings.
-
✺ Recorded Sound
At Columbia University I taught several recording studio classes where I focused on the history of recording and production techniques. I have a lot of material here for the lovers of reverb and echo!
